History and present

The Shofar (from Hebrew) is an ancient musical instrument from the Middle East. The natural funnel shape automatically acts as a sound amplifier. The generated sound is not only bundled, but also delivered in a preferred direction.

The instrument, made of ram or kuduhorn, has its origins in the Jewish religion. It is blown like a brass instrument according to the principle of the padded pipe and thus belongs to the natural horns.

In Jewish culture, the Shofar is blown to Torah and Talmud; among other things for the morning prayer, at the Jewish New Year celebration Rosh Hashanah and also at the end of the Day of Reconciliation Yom Kippur. In Christian culture, the Shofar has increasingly become a part of divine services and festivals. In the meantime, the Shofar has also found its way into popular music culture.

Playing on the Shofar requires a little practice, but is quickly learned.
