Meaning of a Shofar

Biblical mention of a shofar

The rediscovery of the Shofar

In the Bible, the Shofar is mentioned in more than 50 Bible verses.
Why the Shofar has not been observed for a long time is certain that the translators use many different words for the same instrument.
On this page we want to go into the individual biblical passages a little bit. But we want to make it clear that we have only realized piecemeal works, which is the meaning of a Shofar.

The first mention in the Bible

Moses on Mount Sinai

“Only when the ram horn sounds persistently, they should climb up to the mountain. 14 Then Moses descended from the mountain to the people; and he sanctified the people, and they washed their garments. 15 Then he said to the people, “Be ready for the third day.” Don’t approach a woman! 16 And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that thunder and lightning broke out, and a heavy cloud was set on the mountain, and a very strong sound of the horns sounded , so that all the people that were in the camp shook. ” (Genesis 19:16)

The Shofar is blown at festivals and in need

“8 The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall be in the horns (Shofar) Bump. This shall be for you to the eternal order of your generations. 9 And if you go into battle in your land against the oppressor who afflicts you, then you shall give the noise signal with the trumpets (Shofar); and you will be remembered before the LORD your God, and you will be saved from your enemies. 10 And on your days of joy, and in your feasts, and on your new moons, you shall blow into the trumpets (Shofar) in your burnt offerings and in your salvation offerings; and they shall remind you of your God. I am the LORD, your God.” (Genesis 10:8-10)

The Lord Fights for Israel

“4 And seven priests shall have seven ram’s horns. (Shofar) before the load. But on the seventh day you shall go about the city seven times, and the priests shall smite in the horns. 5 And it shall come to come, if the ram horn (Shofar) is sustained, and you hear the sound of the horn, that all the people shall raise up a great cry of war. The wall of the city will then collapse into itself, and the people shall go up, each straight before him. 6 And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant.” And seven priests shall carry seven ram’s horns (Shofar) before the ark of the LORD.” (Jos 6:4-5)

Gideon and 300

Gideon did not distribute trumpets to his men, but Shofar: “16 And he divided the three hundred men into three divisions, and gave them all the horns (Shofar) and empty jugs, and in the pitchers were torches. 17 And he said to them, “Look at me, and do the same.” Behold, when I come to the edge of the camp, it shall be that ye should do as I do. 18 And if I strike into the horn (Shofar), I and all that are with me, you also shall thrust into the horn (Shofar) round about all the camp, and you shall cry, For the LORD, and for Gideon. ” (Judges 7:16-18)
What happened when you blew into the Shofar?
“20 And the three divisions also stumbled into the horns, and broke the pitchers. And they took the torches with their left hand, and their horns with their right hand, for blowing, and cried, Sword for the LORD, and for Gideon. 21 And they stood still, every man in his place, round about the camp. And the whole camp was confused, and they cried out loud and fled. ” (Judge 7:20-21)

Jerusalem City Wall

“13 And I said to the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and vast, and we are scattered on the wall, every far from his brethren. 14 To the place where you hear the sound of the horn (Shofar), there gather yourselves to us. Our God will fight for us! ” (Neh 4:13-14)

Day of the Lord

“6 God ascended under Jauchzen, the LORD by the sound of the horn (Shofar). ” (Psalm 47:6)

“14 And the LORD shall appear upon them, and his arrow shall go out like lightning. And the Lord Yahweh thrusts into the horn (Shofar) and goes in storms of the south. ” (Sacharia 9:14)

“1 Blast the horn (Shofar) upon Zion and raise up the cry of war on my holy mountain1! Quakes should be the same for all the inhabitants of the country! For the day of the LORD is coming, even it is near; ” (Joel 2:1)

“13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that there shall be thrust into a great horn (Shofar), and the lost in the land of Assyria, and the displaced in the land of Egypt, shall come and worship the LORD on the holy mountain of Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 27:13)

“For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven at the call of command, at the voice of an archangel, and in the sound of the trumpet (Shofar) of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:16)

“2 And I saw the seven angels standing before God; and seven trumpets (Shofar) were given to them. ” (Revelation 8:2)

Do Christians need a Shofar?

The Shofar is a spiritual weapon that must be fully part of our equipment. Why, because God himself has blown the Shofar and does so again, we can see from the Bible: Exodus 19:16, Zech. 9:14, Off. 11:15 etc. That is why it is so important for us Christians to put on all the armaments. It is an adapting to the return of Jesus Christ. How will Jesus Christ come with Shofar Schall according to: Off. 11:15. So do Christians need a Shofar? Everyone has to find out for themselves.

We say clearly every Christian needs a Shofar, as was already normal with Jericho that one had a Shofar. Should it be quite normal in our time today that every Christian has a Shofar.

Let us take land and change villages of cities and entire nations, as Jesus has already done. Let us blow the Shofar over our villages and cities and nations. Let us shake the spirit world, as you know when the Shofar is heard the Second Coming is near. Let us let you be terrified as the victory has already been accomplished on the cross of Calvary. It is time to stand up, the sons and daughters of God should enter into your Heavenly Calling. Creation waits for the revelation of the Sons of God. Rom. 8:19

Let us prepare ourselves as the body of Christ for the return of our Bridegroom. Let us welcome Him with joy and adoration.

Blow with us the Shofar for our nation!

A call to purification

“Why are we blowing the Shofar?” asks Rabbi Abbahu
in the Talmud (Rosh Hashanah 16a), the Jewish writing that reproduces rabbinical interpretations of the law. Abbahu’s answer: God has decreed this, so that he may think for the wind bear the bond of Isaac on the altar, in whose place a ram was sacrificed. God promised, “I will attribute it to you, as if you had bound yourself before me.” The Shofar calls for purification and return to God, explains the Swiss Jewish Community Association SIG on its website for the Jewish New Year’s Day Rosh ha-Schana. Joachim With, for his part, says: “From my point of view, it is a wake-up call for ourselves, with the question of whether we live in harmony with God and the close relationship with Him. With the blowing of the Shofar I celebrate that the Ruah, the breath of God, is in me and I live in contact with God.” This puts him in line with Jewish scholars.
